ATP World Tour: Tennis Malaysian Open Semi Finals

blablabla SPM. !$#@ it.

Unlike the last time, its been a while since this happened, so I'll just see what I remember.

The semi-final we got to watch was between Fernando Gonzalez:

(The guy on the board, not the posing sakai)

and Fernando Verdasco:

(uh, you know)

On a side note, I also tried to impersonate Gael Monflis:

But I just couldn't capture the essence of him lol. Something was missing. Pardon the starbucks. ;)

Anyway. the match was pretty good, I think. lol honestly i dont remember. But it had graceful serves.

and emo-ness over losing points:

Ok, so whack here whack there yada yada, and eventually Fernando Verdasco won wooo!!

(oh ya but he lost in the final anyway. Haha KILLJOY)

Coming back to the semi finals, he hit some autographed balls into the crowd!

but I couldn't catch any.

Then he kicked a few autographed BIG balls into the crowd.

and CHECK THIS OUT!!!

......

They're not mine. =(

I got the next best thing though!

I took pictures with them!

Back to the depression,

So as Verdasco was making his way to the exit, he got really close, so of course, a stampede followed.

To the point where i couldn't even take proper pics:

The interesting bit happened AFTER this match, during the doubles match. Ironically, that was when my phones battery died. hence no pics of this. =/

During the match, my all-seeing-eye caught Fernando Verdasco being interviewed at a corner, and no one seemed to notice. So my sis and I went over like ninjas, and stared at him, mesmorised by how close he was. When he was leaving, I shouted "VAMOS VERDASCO" at him.

He looked at me, nodded and moved on.

At the same time, the security guard looked at me,

and I moved on.

Why didn't I get his autograph?

I didn't have a bloody PEN.

.....

!#@$#@

Of course, I am the comeback kid, so after the DOUBLES match, I saw one of the players exiting from the same route. I took a pen, took my cap, and ran half the stadium.

then as he was approaching the exit, I called out to him, ala the way I did when I was in Japan with those girls,

"EXCUSE ME!! CAN YOU SIGN THIS FOR ME??"

"oh yeah, sure,"

So I gave him my pen, my cap, and he signed it. What followed was actually a funny scene where he tried to throw the pen back up at me.

I also told him,

"Win the tournament yeah?"

and he responded with a,

"um, I'll try"

Sure enough, he won the the tournament the next day. Hee.

Oh yeah, I haven't showed off yet.

EHEHEHEHEHE.

you guys are probably wondering, "who the hell is this guy?"

and let me tell you all.

I HAVE NO IDEA

TEE HEE. (sorry nigahiga, couldn't resist)

SPM: Week One

It has finally started hasn't it? The moment we've all been waiting for.

The moment we've all been dreading.

ahem, anyway, won't go into details about the papers but here are some bits from the week with BM,BI and Sejarah.

On monday, all we did basically was "listen" to some speeches and arrange the tables.

After we were done, a whole bunch of girls were crowding around my place! I thought my mojo was finally working with the ladies! *cough*, but evidently not, it was only because of this bugger.

The Fan.

sigh. Mustahil hor?

We were arranged just like any other regular exam, same chairs, same tables. No big difference from the trials we did. This is how a standard seat for SPM looks like:

Some even proposed to use special, VIP seats for the golongan elit.

This idea however, was scrapped due to unknown reasons. (lack of golongan elit in SMKTD perhaps haha)

After the exams, people usually go downstairs to the hall to study, beside the Arena Wira. This is when you truly see the semangat Assabiah or Kepuakan! (eg. various tribes)

But wait! There's more!

Upon zooming in on the same picture, we see a bunch of girls checking out Lai Cheong in certain places!

don't be angry if you're in the pic hor? =D

When it is time to go upstairs to face certain doom, people crowd up the stairs, making it insanely uncomfortable going up.

Which made us wonder why no one just took the other stairs?

Oh, and there's a quarantine room too! You know, if you're sick and stuff.

Won't tell you what the "stuff" here is, but in a nutshell,

Don't get too close.

Redemption.

I like eggs. Don't you like eggs? We like eggs.

Remember this monster I cooked up many months back?

No, it's not alive.

Well I thought it's about time I tried to redeem myself, but cooking a regular egg is boring. I chose the road not taken, and gave it a go at a sunny-side-up egg!

Snazzy though? Prior to this one I made a regular one, but that turned out a little bit brown. (Not burnt though! I think.) You can see it somewhat in the above pic. Whatever, it's not pretty so I put the sunny side up on top of it hee.

I thought it looked really good with my mom's homemade fried rice too.

Yes, the yolk does look a little raw, but upon bursting it and tasting it, it seemed alright. Besides I'm still alive right?

So, redemption? Gross? Phail'd? You be the judge.

*Also i declare Astro Channel 703 awesome!! License to Grill is like porn for the stomach!

So much to post about,

So little time.

Looking back at the whole 2009, I have been turning down countless parties and gatherings, hindering my whole "widen-my-social-cycle" goal i made earlier this year. Without a doubt, I am in no way as open or charismatic as many other people, but I think given the fact that I've been "darurating" myself so much, the progress i made, socially that is, is pretty decent. (Anybody reading this, if you've just known me this year/end of last year, give yourself a pat on the back.)

And the purpose of all that darurat-ing? Well, it all comes down to the week after the next. I'm no Michael Jackson, but This is It? Haha lame. =/

Either way, I just hope it's all worth it.

Expect less updates and stuff. Hee. I promise I'll flood you guys with updates when you-know-what is over and done with!

Don't you wish sometimes,

that you could do a Hiro Nakamura,

and go back and right all the wrongs you did?

I sure do.

*squints eyes*

Yata? Nope, still 2009.

Fortunately, you don't need time travelling powers to change the future.

Poll: Mobile Games: Yay or Nay?

I've been playing quite a lot of these in recent days so I think I should write this while the er... inspiration(?) is still here.

What's a mobile phone? I write letters to my friends. (4 votes)

Very funny. See that block bulging out at the side of your pocket? The block that you constantly hide from teachers in school? The block you use to make calls with? Yeah that's a mobile phone. (omgwtfbbq-ness)

And when you say you write letters to your friends, I sincerely hope you mean e-mail. Thank you interweb. >3

Huh? You can play games on the phone!? (0 votes)

Now that you know what a mobile phone is, did you know you can play games on it!!??

Since no one chose this option, I'm glad to say that you do know! Give yourself a pat on the back, a pat on the head, a doggie biscuit, whatever.

Games on the phone, Snake, Space Impact, Bounce, these are a few of the iconic ones. Dreadfully simple? Perhaps. But picture yourself waiting for a bus, or waiting for you date, or peeing/shitting with nothing to do, and these games are perfect.

Question now is, apart from filling up your masa lapang, are they a viable source of entertainment?

According to genewern.blogspot.com's semi-reliable poll, it stands at a tie, with 7 people supporting mobile games, and 7 people against it. We all know whose side I'm on, so let's do some not so indepth analysis.

Yay! Fun, cheap and even gene wern pla- ah forget it. (7 votes)

Ok, maybe the fact that I play them isn't such a good reason. However! I have my reasons for liking them.

As I mentioned before, games like Snake and Bounce are there to fill up those waiting times, but honestly even I think that someone who plays those for real entertainment are people with no souls.

But think about it, THINGS CHANGE. Technology advances, phones canggih-fy, developers want money. Wake up, snake and bounce aren't the stapple games anymore.

Don't believe me?

Meet Tower Bloxx.

The game you see on facebook? On the XBox 360? That originated from the mobile phone.

and it's bloody fun. No, not just 5 minutes at bus stop fun, but "I want to go home and beat Jeunn Hao's highscore!"-fun.

Ok, from the screenshot above, the graphics are fairly bland. But that's from the game 5 years ago. It has evolved somewhat.

Last year, Tower Bloxx Deluxe was released.

And, soon, this baby will be released, Tower Bloxx New York.

Stacking blocks too simple you say? Yeah, fully understandable if this isn't your cup of tea. On mobile, there're epics too. Well not console quality epics but when you can get a game that looks as good as this on mobile:

You know you're in for something special. That's Galaxy on Fire 2 btw.

And if you're an old fart, sorry, ahem, retro person like myself, and you like playing old games like tetris, then worry not, because mobile is the platform where you'll find plenty of retro remakes.

Tetris for example, looked like this.

EA Mobile remade it, and now it looks like this.

Pac-Man too, is no longer a stranger.

Now?

Still, the first Pac-Man is more popular thanks to the geniuses at Namco Bandai who added a bluetooth multiplayer mode. Meaning you can play as the GHOSTS. Brilliant stuff.

But there're no big name titles! Ahh.... but there is, FIFA, Need For Speed, Assassins Creed, Sonic the Hedgehog and even Guitar Hero are all available on the phone.

This all sounds cool and stuff, but I suspect many of you will still say this.

Nay, PSP is the way to go hee hee hee! (7 votes)

Sonic Unleashed Mobile

Guitar Hero III Mobile

It seriously pisses me off when they look at a mobile game, and say "Oh PC version is better, Playstation one cooler."

what.

You're taking something which has the main function of calling people (phone), and comparing it with something that has the sole purpose of entertaining you (playstation, PSP,DS). OF COURSE IT'S BETTER. Use your common sense.

Expectations. While I glorify mobile games, perhaps more than they deserve, it's important to remember that they are still, mobile games, and that Gene Wern doesn't play console games. ;_;

So, keep your expectations low. Don't expect something that'll blow you away. Don't expect something that'll get you hooked.

You might be surprised. ;D

I was.

SolaRola

And I never would've though a game with colourful rolling balls would be so entertaining. Have to say it's a very cute game too.

When you leave the house, there's always a list of things to bring, keys, carkeys, and mobile phone. It's always with you, so what do you have to lose?

Every game I mentioned above are Java Games, so generally most phones should be able to handle them.

If your phone it still too old, then sorry, you're stuck with snake. =p

If your phone is too canggih, yes EUGENE you, then I have no idea because I've never played them. But the iphone can play stuff like this.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Go **** yourself. >=(

Ahem, so readers, do at least consider giving mobile games a try before dissing them. Just ask me and I'll be glad to send games to you.

Besides,

Even Isaac supports it.

With such enthusiasm. =D

ATP World Tour: Tennis Malaysian Open Qualifying Rounds

A lot has happened over the past few weeks. Birthday was rather uneventful, got sejarah/chinese to work on, Taylors interview was shit by my standards, and my graduation speech was too long haha. Bah I hope it gets a good reception. Will probably do an *uncensored* version on this blog soon after the graduation hehe.

Anyways, I'll start with the Tennis Malaysian Open first since it's still fresh in my memory. As with badminton, you get free entrance and free seating for the qualifying rounds, which is really cool since you get to go to the VIP seats.

This event is really awesome since it's an ATP World Tour event, perhaps not as prestigious as the Masters and obviously Grand Slams, but still, this means you get to see the high rank stars. Yeap, we're talking former Grand Slam winners and Grand Slam finalists here.

So, which stars are coming to Malaysia anyway?

You know, the record breaking 155mph serve Andy Roddick?

The former US Open Champion Andy Roddick?

The 2009 Wimbledon Open Runner-up Andy Roddick? (Boo, he so should have became the champion)

..... He's not coming. =(

However! There are plenty of other stars in this tourney.

There's the former US and Autralian Open Champion Lleytton Hewitt! (edit- knocked out already lol)

Robin "Nadal-Slayer" Soderling!

Fernando "Super Mega Ultra Giga Terra Roti Canai Forehand" Gonzalez!

Nikolay "I-am-losing-my-hair-at-such-a-young-age-boohooboohoo" Davydenko!

... and many more!

But those people will only be available for your viewing pleasure once the main draw starts. You won't see them in the qualifying rounds. (that's why its free ma.)

No shortage of good tennis though. These qualifying players maybe ranked 500-ish in the world, but they of course, have the skills that could pwn the average tennis player. Thing is, in tennis, if you're in the top 100, you're considered good, and you probably have the ability to upset any top 20 player.

Besides, the atmosphere is pretty awesome. There's aircon inside if you're puteri/putera lilin.

haha i know it looks really empty but the crowd is at the side, and at where im sitting. As I said, free seating meant that we moved to the VIP section for some temporary "omg im a VIP"-ness, so we could get really close to the court.

This way, you can enjoy some really good tennis.

Reaching for the skies. (and serving the ball too.)

Receiving serve.

If you're really THAT bored and can't appreciate tennis,

They put a shiny car beside the court to distract you. Hey, it's shiny!

Finally, one thing I love about attending Malaysian Open, tennis or badminton, is everything they have at the place. They sell sports good, shirts, rackets, and my personal favourite,

hell. yeah.

Shebby Ew supports personally-going-to-watch-live-event! Bring on Badminton Malaysia Open next year!

Oh yeah and I'm going to this see Saturday's Semi-Finals hee hee hee.
